In honor of Lunar New Year, I decided to get freaky!
Please enjoy this celebration of the each animal zodiac with some Hybrid!AU scenarios. Lots of size kink, breeding kink, feral behavior, and more. I'm really on my nerd shit here. Really playing with my dolls rn. This is so utterly distant from the source material it's unreal. You've been warned. [part 1 of 2]
Tumblr media
Barn Cat!Nikto x Rat!Reader
Nikto is a dutiful, prideful creature. A stray who domesticated himself to a farm, hunting their vermin in exchange for a place to call his own when he pleased. He’s caught a thousand little krysy like you, but you give him pause when he bears down on you. Something about the quiver to your tail, the nervous clench of your legs… It’s not how rats ought to act when under the paw of a cat. He’s inclined to keep you– curious about what else fear might make you do.
Chianina!Ghost x Vechur!Reader
You’re in adjacent pens, having travelled a long way– you’re show animals, the most exemplary in your breed. True to form, he’s gigantic and has a brilliant white coloring to his fur, and you’re, well… little. Constantly crowded around for onlookers to take pictures, the ox beside you flaring his nostrils when he sees you being overwhelmed and anxious, stamping to scare off the spectators. You’re almost infuriatingly diminutive to him. He doesn’t know how it’s possible, and if the abundance of ribbons on your gate is anything to go by– you’ll probably be paired up to somehow make an even smaller little calf. Maybe he’ll just have to take some steps to make sure he can see it for himself.
Flemish Giant!König x Netherlands Dwarf!Reader
You’re unceremoniously pushed onto the back lawn of the house. Your owner and his are good friends– and have recently become obsessed with the idea of having little baby bunnies to cuddle. Boy meets girl– can I make it any more obvious? You can, because they neglect to take into account your difference in breed. You’re terrified when you encounter him, and he doesn’t help matters when he catches you by the ankle as you try to dive under the porch to hide. But he doesn’t do anything bad when he’s caught you. Just holds you a little too tight, nuzzling, like you’re little more than a toy to him. Unfortunately for you, your owners consider it a successful playdate, keen to set more up regularly until the right season rolls around.
Tiger!Horangi x Housecat!Reader
You live on a plantation bordering forest, climbing in and out of the window by your favorite basking spot to explore. Being raised among humans, your survival instincts are a bit dull– you can’t tell that you’re being watched by a tiger. He’s never seen a little creature like you. You’re like him, but small. But you still very much smell like a female, so he’s more than content to stalk after you. He doesn’t really understand why your back bristles up when he roars. He’s used to females growling and swiping at him when they’re not interested, but you run off back to your window, shaking as you watch him from the walls of your little palace. He’ll try again tomorrow.
Dragon!Price x Fish Scale Gecko!Reader
There aren’t many dragons left in the world. Price, for one, hasn’t seen another since he was very young. He hasn’t seen much of anything in the past hundred years or so– hasn’t come down from on high. No reason to. The forest begins to return to the mountainside– having been leveled by his flame decades ago. With the trees come more creatures, including you. Scales and tail not unlike a dragon– though your size and tree-dwelling habits are decidedly un-dragonlike. With his mating season on the horizon, beggars can’t be choosers, but when he tries to grab you by the tail, he’s left holding a fistful of scales. It gets his blood running hot– he’s forgotten what a thrill it is to hunt. He might just be in love.
Reticulated Python Naga!Nikolai x Brahminy Blind Snake Naga!Reader
You have no idea as to the extent of Nikolai’s tail, as you can’t see it. All you know are the shadows he makes against the sunlight. You know that he eats strange things, things that don’t sound like eggs or larvae (what he’s eating are your predators, hoping to take advantage of a tiny, blind, defenseless thing out in the open). When he ponders about how he’s going to stretch you to fit his cock, to take his eggs– you can’t even begin to imagine what he’s talking about. Your mother made all of her eggs on her own, and so did your sisters– what does he need you for?

just woke up from a bizarro nightmare:
i found a visual novel adjacent indie game called "All-in One", made by a tumblr user techy-vrissy or something like that; naturally i wanted to stream it (i had my OBS open and running the whole time, giving me immense anxiety throughout the nightmare)
it was a very niche game, so i wanted to make it more known by making a carrd for it with links to download it as well as synopsis and character info
for some reason i only had a free unvoiced version and wanted to get a premium paid one with professional voice over by japanese anime studio
that's where the weird stuff began - every time i googled the name of the game, it would glitch the page into something scary and unsettling (the two distinct examples i remember is a fake chinese food restraunt order with 4th wall jokes throughout it, and AI-generated pictures of interiors made entirely out of dogs textures but it looked more like gore than a funny collage)
at some point i also for some reason accidentally re-named a handful of characters in the unvoiced version and wanted to change them back, and that took forever to figure
some character names i remember were The D°g Boy and Paripi Bitch Ren (okay then...)
no matter what i did i couldn't find a page to download the game at all, not even the version i had initially so i could at least restore the names to the original ones
in the end i found that apparently the game was coded, and i cannot stress enough the absurdity of it, by writing thousands upon thousands of Reddit comments with character text, image links and movement descriptions python-style in unending reply chain
i found the links eventually on a forum made by the creator and the top pinned post was "3000 frequently asked questions"
there i read that it couldn't be downloaded for Windows anymore, it was discontinued in favor of an experimental operating system similar to Mac, that risked everything being wiped off my computer during the installation process and required a pretty beefy hardware that I didn't have
i woke up really angry and sore

Portable People
Muriel: "Can I...Can I take a book with me? I was looking at one earlier. They're like people, only portable." S2E6
Crowley's yeeting them around while stress-cleaning the bookshop, Jimbriel is trying to sell them to the investigating archangels, and Muriel just wants to read them all. Should we give a second thought to any of these books?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Er, yes. Yes, we should, I say.
In Crowley's case, both times he tosses the books aside (both in S2E3) it is adjacent to a conversation about memory.
In the first one he remarks to Jim that he doesn't remember why "they" invented gravity. He tosses the books - records of the past, records of (human) knowledge - then moves right back into the present, observing Rodney the Stunt Fly with Jim and then describing his Operation Lovebirds plan to him.
The same with the second GIF - Crowley has to make a decision between answering the phone (which is Aziraphale calling from Edinburgh) or the books. The present wins again, and he has the phone conversation with Aziraphale.
Crowley: Pffft. Humans. You don't let yourself get too attached. Aziraphale: No. No, I suppose not. Um… You haven't actually been selling any of the books, have you?
While we get the impression of Crowley not wanting to hang on to the past, as if its something that's hurt him before and he doesn't want to repeat that, on the other hand Aziraphale was having a lovely time remembering Mr Dalrymple the Scottish surgeon from 1826. This from an angel who hates getting rid of memories books, and we learn keeps a diary! Hmm.
I suppose the question is, is it a real memory problem on Crowley's side or an affected one to get around certain...awkwardness to do with his history? Such as not remembering working with Saraqael or fighting next to Furfur before the Fall?
Jimbriel, on the other hand, is more like Muriel. He is having a wonderful time discovering the delights of Humanity in the bookshop for the first time and is sooo excited to show it to the archangels when they arrive on Aziraphale's doorstep!
Tumblr media
[btw, do you notice which side Jimbriel is standing on here? Its actually interesting to pay attention to which shoulder-side he is on in S2, because he is rarely on the left - even in S1, as well]
So while Aziraphale tries to, um, explain what humans do, Jimbriel "fans" one in Saraqael's face and then tries to (horror!) kill Rodney the Stunt fly with the Wicked Bible - the one with the printing error that says "You Shall Commit Adultery." *ahem* (not looking at you Jimbriel, oh no, not all...) Good thing it never works, Jimbriel declares, as the dust flies dramatically.
Tumblr media
Edit: This book-banging episode is also a Monty Python reference! I found out over in my Assistant Bookseller meta that Jim's Fair Isle's style vest is a nod the Gumby characters, who all wear that style of vest and have the catchphrase "My brain hurts!" They also bang bricks together occasionally. *sigh* The things you didn't expect to find...Gabriel the Gumby...
The angels take no notice of Jim's antics. Since when do they take any notice of what goes on with humans, anyway? Oh, yes, they are going to keep a close eye on Aziraphale, but some idiotic human - nah! Don't care!
Then there's this travesty:
Tumblr media
Aaah! The horror! Aziraphale reluctantly lets Maggie and Nina throw the books of human knowledge at the demons. But that doesn't work in the long run. Only the angel himself can solve this crisis.

As a seasonal folivore and frugivore, the proboscis monkey eats primarily fruit and leaves.[22] It also eats flowers, seeds and insects to a lesser extent. At least 55 different plant species are consumed, "with a marked preference for Eugenia sp., Ganua motleyana and Lophopetalum javanicum".[32] Young leaves are preferred over mature leaves and unripe fruits are preferred over ripe fruit.[22] Being a seasonal eater, the proboscis monkey eats mostly fruit from January to May and mostly leaves from June to December.[32] Groups usually sleep in adjacent trees.[33] Monkeys tend to sleep near rivers, if they are nearby. Proboscis monkeys will start the day foraging and then rest further inland. Their daily activities consist of resting, traveling, feeding and keeping vigilant.[22] Occasionally, they chew their cud to allow more efficient digestion and food intake.[34] As night approaches, the monkeys move back near the river and forage again. Predators (potential or confirmed) of the proboscis monkey include crocodilians like false gharials and saltwater crocodiles, the Sunda clouded leopard, sun bears and reticulated pythons as well as, for probably young or sickly monkeys, large eagles (such as the crested serpent eagle or black eagle), large owls, and monitor lizards.[35][36] Monkeys will cross rivers at narrows or cross arboreally if possible. This may serve as predator avoidance.[37]
the humble proboscis monkey. anyone know if we got resting, traveling, feeding and keeping vigilant tmr

SUMMER SCHOOL. I started summer classes about a week ago, Calculus. It totally sucks but I'm going to be so grateful when it's done so that I won't have to overload on classes next semester. It's probably best to do a weeder class over the summer so that I can have all my focus on passing the class. Still, not really what I'd like to be spending my summer doing.
However on a better note, I FINALLY started working on a coding project. I've resurrected my NeoCities website and I'm currently working on fixing that up and brushing up on my HTML (I have not coded in HTML since freshman year of highschool 🤞). I'm not quite sure what I am planning on doing with it yet, but I want it to be computer science adjacent. I want do to a lot of styilistic things to it as well, but I don't want it to end up looking like my personal Tumblr account (it's very cutesy). I would like to not only have a theme, but a real reason besides brushing up on HTML to make it. Perhaps a repostitry of code that I've made in the past, but then it's just like a personal GitHub... So I don't know!
If any of ya'll have suggestions/ideas for the page, let me know! I will link it in this post once I have a bit more done on it (and also will be linked in my get to know me post).
In terms of other projects, I'm planning on starting something this week, so stay tuned for that. Python project obvi ;)
Have a great summer everyone! Enjoy it no matter what you're doing!
(feel free to reblog with your personal summer projects! I'd love to see what you're working on!)
-you are loved <3

🐒 munke [10:20 PM] on my last helloanyhy i drew anthy as kanaya mayhaps i should terezi her this time [10:20 PM] not character parallels .jus anthy cosplay things
🐍 python [10:20 PM] terezi [pog]
🐒 munke [10:21 PM] terezis ur rose bride
🐍 python [10:21 PM] anthy cosplays all the homestuck trolls
🐒 munke [10:21 PM] (makes u into bug cannibal)
🐍 python [10:21 PM] om nom nom nom [me turning myself into a bug and also you so i can cannibalize you] [10:22 PM] terezi's name is razor gillette and shes an orchid mantis
🐒 munke [10:22 PM] my brain is getting chemicaliszed so i cabt mental exercise but bow do u think anthy n vriska would get alkng oe not
🐍 python [10:22 PM] ummm… i imagine something similar to how anthy and nanami get along
🐒 munke [10:23 PM] did u kno ladbugs hav to drill a hole thru the females exoskeletob to creat an orifice to mate [10:23 PM] wohldnt that be heinous [10:23 PM] rips u a new asshole
🐍 python [10:23 PM] vriska: does not agree with anthy's submission so she comes in with a lot of bluster [10:23 PM] anthy: 🙂
🐒 munke [10:23 PM] omg. vrisknami ?+ [10:24 PM] nariska
🐍 python [10:24 PM] nanami is not A vriska, i think, but she feels very adjacent to me [10:24 PM] i need 2 ponder that one more [10:24 PM] i do know i consider wakaba and jade to be similar though [10:25 PM] i think vriska considers anthy to be very boring. so she might provoke her a lot. like how she was w aradiabot [10:25 PM] but also that was bc vriska considered aradia a friend… so idk with a stranger she might just be rude
🐒 munke [10:26 PM] wait ur wakajade parraleld [10:26 PM] i would like to hear defensr
🐍 python [10:26 PM] theyre both sidelined by the plot very heavily [10:26 PM] w wakaba its like lampshaded but w jade less so [10:26 PM] they both couldve been the protag in another comic
🐒 munke [10:27 PM] ahhhh [10:27 PM] rebound girlies ……..
🐍 python [10:27 PM] theyre both aware of how distant they r from the canon… and hate it [10:27 PM] yeas… [10:28 PM] i think the difference is that jade was sidelined bc she was too powerful for the plot. like she is the most involved in sburb of the beta kids (her life does not truly begin until they enter the game) but shes also the least involved in all the big battles bc shes too strong [10:28 PM] the hand of god taking her off the table… [10:28 PM] i think wakaba is just sidelined bc its not her story LOL [10:29 PM] like she HAS her own plot she can be involved in (shes the princess of that other world or whatever and she literally found her prince) but she doesnt want it ‼‼ she wants to be in this one. [10:30 PM] thats all i have maybe theres another utena character who jade is a closer analog to idk [10:33 PM] i think in terms of like… placement irt the plot? vriska's thing is that the story is always trying to sideline her but she (and also the hand of god very transparently) keeps putting her back in. and also terezi did that once too lol. but nanami and vriska share a similar role of … being subjected to a lot of humiliation (plot wise) but also their backstories are a trauma dump. and also ofc the personalities
and today
🐒 munke [1:13 PM] did u send me an anon on hehlloanthy about vriska
🐍 python [1:13 PM] not at all [1:13 PM] what does it say ⁉️⁉️⁉️‼️⁉️‼️⁉️
🐒 munke [1:13 PM] 🤨
🐍 python [1:13 PM] BELIEB ME
🐒 munke [1:13 PM] ok well im ghonna post our conversation about rgu/hs parallels then [1:13 PM] just to share 💜
🐍 python [1:15 PM] okay addendum to what i said before [1:18 PM] for homestuck, rheres a difference between hussie the self insert joke and hussie the wielder of the hand of god. re: vriska remaining relevant via the hand of god. like hussies self insert is an allegory for the narrative going off the rails and out of their control. but ofc like theyre the one still writing and arting for it, so they arent truly divorced from the narrative decisions jn the real world. DOES THIS MAKE SENSE
🐒 munke [1:22 PM] yes
🐍 python [1:22 PM] i just want to circumvent the haters 😈
🐒 munke [1:22 PM] HSFJDFJSKDHFOKDSJ

"sir forsyth." edain approaches him before the competition starts. she remembers him from when he'd protected her during the church's mission in deirdriu. he certainly had the courage that ullr was known to have. "you're a good fit for the crusader ullr." she smiles lightly. "you may not wield the power of a bow like she, but your courage and sense of duty is just like her. i'm confident you'll represent my blood well." she hopes these to be words of encouragement for him.
"Lady Edain! It is wonderful to see you." The priestess had served by him valiantly in Derdriu, and he has seen her in passing since. She hails from Jugdral, and he feels honored to have her blessing for this battle--especially as it seems he has been assigned the banner of her ancestor. "I appreciate your vote of confidence. I hope to do her memory proud alongside Sir Quan."
A bow and a sense of duty, huh? Perhaps if you combined Python and Forsyth, you could approximate something adjacent to Ullr. Would it be sacrilege to comment that? He feels a smile cross his lips, but holds his tongue. He does not wish to minimize any important Jugdrali traditions.
"I shall do my utmost, for the honor of Ullr!"

How Do Quality Assurance Software Testing Courses Support Career Changes?
In today’s fast-evolving digital landscape, the demand for reliable, high-quality software continues to soar. Businesses rely on robust software systems to deliver exceptional user experiences and maintain a competitive edge. Behind this reliability lies a crucial, yet often underappreciated function: Quality Assurance (QA) and Software Testing. For professionals seeking a career change, whether from non-technical backgrounds or adjacent IT roles, Quality Assurance Software Testing courses offer a promising pathway into the tech industry.
This blog explores how QA courses support career transitions, the benefits they provide, the skills you gain, and the industries that are actively hiring QA professionals. Whether you're a teacher, retail worker, customer service associate, or even from a finance background, QA training can help you make a successful shift into tech.
Why Career Changers Choose QA Software Testing
1. Low Barrier to Entry
Unlike many IT roles that demand extensive coding expertise or a degree in computer science, QA testing offers a relatively lower barrier to entry. While technical skills help, many QA courses are designed to accommodate beginners, gradually introducing them to testing methodologies, tools, and basic programming where needed.
2. High Demand Across Industries
From healthcare and finance to e-commerce and gaming, every industry that relies on software needs testers. The versatility of QA means that switching from another sector often brings added value. For example, a former healthcare professional can test hospital management software with valuable domain insights.
3. Quick Learning Curve
Most QA software testing courses range from 8 to 16 weeks, making them accessible to full-time employees looking to upskill or transition. With structured learning paths, interactive labs, and real-time projects, you can start applying for jobs within months.
Core Components of a QA Software Testing Course
Career changers benefit from a structured curriculum that introduces foundational principles before advancing into specialized tools and methodologies. A quality course will typically cover:
1. Manual Testing Basics
Understanding SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle)
STLC (Software Testing Life Cycle)
Test case creation, execution, and defect logging
Types of testing (functional, regression, integration, etc.)
2. Automation Testing Tools
Selenium WebDriver
TestNG, Cucumber
Postman (for API testing)
Version control (e.g., Git)
3. Agile and Scrum Methodologies
Daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives
QA’s role in Agile teams
Understanding product backlogs and user stories
4. Basic Scripting
Introduction to scripting in Java, Python, or JavaScript
Writing simple automated test scripts
5. Test Management Tools
JIRA
Bugzilla
TestRail or Zephyr
These modules equip learners with hands-on skills, real-world tools, and the ability to collaborate within modern software development environments.
Transferable Skills from Non-Tech Roles
Career changers often worry about starting over from scratch. However, QA testing is a field where your past experiences often become strengths. Here's how:
1. Attention to Detail
Whether you were an editor, accountant, or administrative professional, the meticulous nature of your work translates well into identifying software bugs and inconsistencies.
2. Analytical Thinking
Former roles in finance, business analysis, or data management build problem-solving skills crucial for root cause analysis in QA testing.
3. Communication Skills
QA testers must document bugs clearly and communicate with developers, product managers, and stakeholders. Roles like customer support or teaching develop strong interpersonal communication, highly valuable in QA teams.
4. Process Orientation
If you’ve worked in logistics, compliance, or operations, your experience with following (and improving) processes aligns directly with QA’s need for structured testing and documentation.
Real-World Examples of Career Transitions
Let’s look at some real-life examples that illustrate how QA courses facilitate smooth transitions:
Case 1: From Customer Service to QA Tester
Jasmine, who spent seven years in customer service, enrolled in a QA course during the pandemic. Her ability to understand user pain points helped her excel at user experience testing. Within five months, she landed her first job as a QA Analyst at a fintech company.
Case 2: From Teaching to Software Testing
Raj, a high school science teacher, had strong organizational skills but no tech background. After a 12-week QA course, he started as a junior tester and now contributes to automated test suites after upskilling further.
Case 3: From Retail to Manual Testing
Michael, a retail supervisor, leveraged his skills in task management and problem resolution to transition into QA. The structured nature of QA work gave him a fulfilling career path with higher growth potential and job stability.
Certifications That Add Value
For career changers, certifications add credibility and help build confidence. Many QA software testing courses prepare you for:
ISTQB Certification (International Software Testing Qualifications Board)
Certified Agile Tester
Certified Selenium Tester
Postman API Testing Certification
These certifications demonstrate your commitment to learning and enhance your resume for hiring managers who may otherwise question your lack of formal tech experience.
What to Look for in a QA Course as a Career Changer
Choosing the right course is critical. Career changers should prioritize:
Beginner-Friendly Curriculum
Ensure the course starts with fundamentals and doesn’t assume prior coding knowledge.
Hands-On Projects
Look for real-world testing projects, including bug tracking, test case development, and automation practices.
Placement Assistance
Courses offering resume preparation, mock interviews, and job placement support are ideal for those reentering the job market.
Instructor Support
Mentorship from experienced QA professionals accelerates learning and helps build industry connections.
Career Paths After QA Software Testing Courses
Once you complete a QA course and gain some hands-on experience, a variety of career paths become accessible:
1. Manual Tester / QA Analyst
Focuses on exploratory testing, test case writing, and bug reporting—ideal for fresh graduates or those without a programming background.
2. Automation Tester
Leverages tools like Selenium to run automated test scripts—higher salary and growth prospects.
3. Performance Tester
Specializes in stress and load testing using tools like JMeter or LoadRunner.
4. QA Lead / Test Manager
With years of experience, you can progress into leadership roles responsible for team management and test strategy planning.
5. Specialized Roles
Mobile App Testing
Security Testing
API Testing
DevOps-integrated QA roles
Advantages of QA Courses for Career Changers
Here are some compelling benefits of pursuing QA testing courses if you’re looking for a professional pivot:
1. Fast-Track Entry into Tech
With training programs as short as three months, QA offers one of the fastest routes to breaking into IT.
2. Affordable Learning
Compared to bootcamps or four-year degrees, QA training is often more affordable, with many online options available.
3. Remote Work Opportunities
Many QA roles support remote or hybrid work environments, making it ideal for parents, caregivers, or those with mobility constraints.
4. Steady Career Growth
The global software testing market is expected to reach $70 billion by 2030, ensuring long-term job stability and growth.
5. Supportive Learning Communities
Many online QA training platforms offer peer communities, discussion forums, and mentorship, making learning feel less isolating.
Common Challenges & How to Overcome Them
Fear of Technology
Solution: Choose beginner-friendly courses and focus on building foundational knowledge first. Confidence grows with hands-on practice.
Lack of Confidence in Job Applications
Solution: Build a portfolio with GitHub repositories, test case samples, and documentation to showcase your skills.
Age or Experience Concerns

Four Years of Data Eng
I am somewhat of an overthinker. I find it hard to absorb/acknowledge patterns and observations without a “formalization” and “documentation” process.  In the last 4 years I have been observing some weird patterns and behaviors in the institutions and individuals. As I look forward towards building a fulfilling career I am starting to realize that I need to go through the process of acknowledging the “rules of the game” and the "current state of my bubble". I have decided to use books/articles/videos as the primary form knowledge confirmation.
This is my fourth year into my career as a data/software engineer. I started this journey by teaching myself python as a masters student at the University of Pennsylvania. Before my masters I have worked in the “real world” for about 4 years. I did construction oversight, environmental field sampling, CAD/GIS drafting and some quantitative contaminant modeling. I was lucky enough to realize that the tasks that bring me the most excitement and joy are geospatial mapping, data analysis and data systems scaling (aka speeding up the process in which sample results are tagged as non-compliant - instead of doing it manually). Well, I have been in the tech/tech adjacent world for about 4 years and 6 months now… and I have definitely learned a lot - but at the same time some things still feel confusing.
Things that still confuse me:
Disengagement and apathy in software engineers is much more common than it is in civil or environmental engineers. “Real” [physical world] engineers seem to care about the quality of their work or safety of their structure, and if they don’t personally care their formal certification body ensures that they abide by some collective “code”.
Software engineers (and adjacent) seem to be more individualistic - there is a lot less cooperation. It feels inhumanely competitive sometimes.
The gap between “reality” and “bullshit” is concerningly huge - software engineers' claims are exaggerated and overly optimistic, not sure if it's from a place of ignorance or delusional optimism. Civil engineers are constrained by the physical world, they cannot overpromise and then “bullshit” the specs of their delivered product.
The scientific method and methodical thinking are foreign concepts to (some) software engineers. Even documentation and writing seem to not interest them.
Profit.. Above all - no ethical or moral guidelines - no consideration for long term impacts - or considering second order effects - or taking into account the humanity of the worker - burn out, PIPs, over-exhaustion, mental breakdowns.. I have never seen a civil engineer, environmental engineer have to go through that.
This is intended to be a reference document summarizing the important concepts in Hacking Capitalism Version 0.1.6 written by Kris Nova. The order of the sections is primarily adopted from the sequence at which the book chapters appear.

frankcore march 2025 update!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i keep waiting until the middle of the month to start writing some shit on this lmfao sorry, third update of the year, much more all over the place than last month's, going from different flavors of pop, rap and electronic that blend together to the point of blurring the lines of each paradigm to the somewhat more out-there approximations to rock and metal, hard to really find a proper constant throughline this time around.
for starters: one of the groups that was a central part of the development of a very singular sound of pop in the 2010s whose work i've admittedly haven't delved much but i oughta at some point, very ethereal with a slight witch-housey edge; a melancholic and airy slowcore number from an act that i'm pretty unfamiliar but that appears to really hone in on very ambient-like soundscapes in the context of indie and psychedelia (shoutout to madjestic kasual for putting me on, great youtube channel); the unlikely collab of laidback electronic extraordinaire dj python and neoperreo legend isabella lovestory on a downtempo cut with infectious vocal lines and atmospheric synth pads; the first single off billy woods' upcoming project that is, as expected, an impeccable showing of lyricism and endless quotables laid atop a jazzy, murky beat from former collaborator kenny segal; a couple of tracks from different scenes of pop in asia: from china, a particularly artsy and enveloping track by isabelle huang with an idm / post-club edge, from korea: a surprisingly trip-hoppy number from nmixx, a group that's always focused on the blending of different genres with k-pop idioms and has recently found the sweet spots between genre experimentation and pop songwriting, and later on in the playlist, from japan: a track from ever-iconic and essential j-pop group perfume with their signature aggressive yet firmly electropop sound that always works well for me; a wonderfully abrasive and catchy pop rap number with an industrial edge and impeccably boastful energy from argentinian wonderkid roro; and after, a cut off deft & manni dee's very solid swamp season ep, taking a lot of edm trap idioms and contorting them into various forms that are very much informed by a lot of recent developments in hip hop, with the track featured here bearing a lot of resemblance to the whole nervous music scene, with icy skittering hi-hats and booming basslines, accompanied by end-of-the-world-sounding synth pads.
later on: very sweet and comforting crossover of downtempo and twee from swedish group club 8, really oughta check that album at some point; very woozy dream pop from fine, the vocalist of the alt-r&b group chinah, featured a few months back on this list; a cut off yt's new mixtape that samples swedish house mafia, appealing to my bro-edm self from my teenage years and my current obsession with jerk beats; in a shocking turn of events, a metal track from a local band is featured on this list! this group tackles into the more somber, plodding sounds of sludge metal with the gnarlier vocal stylings and textures of neo-crust, honing on repetition in a way that i particularly enjoyed, more than i'm used to with a lot of metal-adjacent stuff; a bombastic, hard-hitting edm trap rework of a drone and dark ambient track courtesy of absolute behemoth evian christ; an extremely off-kilter rock piece that also has a lot of contagious and fun energy from yhwh nailgun, one of several acts that's solidifying ad 93 as one of my labels to keep tabs on for quality stuff; and ever-shapeshifting producer and dj avalon emerson heading deep into 80s synthpop and hi-nrg with a cover of oppenheimer analysis, being a bit slicker than the track it's based on but maintaining the effectiveness and immediacy of those hooks and melodies.
finally, for the last third of the playlist: an unlikely result for the pairing of lsdxoxo, boys noize and vtss as they deliver a very effective, sexy, driving synth funk track with nods to 80s prince; dj tonias taking the already forwardthinking track by dj dengue and giving it a spin by blending the sounds of mandelao with rhythm influences of dubstep; icy drill hi-hats, reverberated and woozy vocals and euphoric trance synths meet up in this track by sus1er & scan; a song that i found through the fmc weekly, a meetup of indietronica production with neo-psych foundations in terms of songwriting and vocal delivery as well as post-punky rhythms, i'm unfamiliar with the original version but i'm definitely very into this reinterpretation; speaking of punk adjacent stuff: for the more late-2000s "indie sleaze" vibe, we've got an abrasive yet extremely energetic and catchy track from the hellp who also featured on last month's batch (definitely an album that passed me by last year, should get on to it at some point), for a scrappier yet still electronic approximation that shares dna with the glitchier side of pop, there's a track from kassie krut's debut ep from last year, and for a more early-2000s post punk revival sound but with a sasscore twist in the vocal department, a track by ¡forward, russia! from an album that i dug a lot more than i was expecting, infectious rhythms and a screamed-out vocal delivery that surprisingly struck my fancy; to close off, a couple of electronic tracks: on the one hand, a blown-out and distorted track that sounds soaked as if dunked into a vat of acid from so wet's water kingdom tackling the lightfooted rhythms and synthesized production of drill and bass; and on the other, a classic thunderdome-era gabber track with frantic sampling and the ever-present distorted kickdrums from rob gee aka riot squad.
before we go, a track that i wanted to add to the list but that for some reason isn't on streaming services: free free by ami suzuki collabing with yasutaka nakata of capsule, delivering the simultaneously dance-floor ready, biting and effervescent electropop sound you'd come to expect from the latter, infectious melodies and grooves all around.
that's it for this month, tube it!

DELILAH ANNE ROSE
AGE: 34
BIRTHDAY: April 13th, 1990
RELATION: Full sibling
TYPE: Twin
GENDER: Ciswoman
PRONOUNS: She/Her
ORIENTATION(S): Pansexual
FACE CLAIM: Melissa Benoist
JOB/SCHOOL
JOB: Professor of Game Development
ALUMNI?: Alumni
ABOUT
[TW: DEATH OF A SIGNIFICANT OTHER, TORTURE]
Delilah has always been too smart for her own good, and as a woman in STEAM, she has never shied away from fighting what she needs to fight for. In high school, Delilah focused most of her attention on getting the best possible grades so that she could go to the best possible school. Delilah always had a knack for computers and she knew in her soul that her calling was to use her absurd amount of knowledge and wisdom in some form of computer programming. While Marley found solace in playing instruments, Delilah found solace in being creative with Javascript and Python. And while MIT was tempting, she never got over the fact that she didn’t get in. Delilah followed her sisters to PSU instead and thinks she’s all the better for it.
Delilah got her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at PSU with the intention of going to Quantico to be an FBI Agent– and she did. After her first year of training, Delilah quickly worked up the ranks to become a Data Analyst, and spent most of her time working through codes and puzzles. Her brain performed analytics at a truly alarming rate, and while Delilah wasn’t a Field Agent, she spent a vast majority of her time decrypting information for her team. Delilah is a total puzzle snob, including doing all of the NYT puzzles on a daily basis (and the crossword in pen). Delilah is very adjacent to nerd culture and enjoys a ren fair, GMing any and all D&D games, romantasy novels, cozy video games, and escape rooms.
When she left Quantico, she spent about a year in DC working for the local office, but she was then called to work on a very specific case. Delilah was put into the New York City FBI Office with the sole purpose of using her absurdly puzzling brain to figure out a long-winded series of clues akin to Lost of Blindspot. She lived in New York, she started saying “on line”, and got used to lying about her job to her family. She had long hours and great pay and she was happy, so what else mattered? But when she met Neal Meyer, everything seemed to make sense for Delilah. Commitment wasn’t something she could ever do, mostly because of her job– and also because of someone she loved and had left behind in California. She fell hard and fast for Neal, and she knew that he could see her true heart and loved her anyway. Their love was quiet, but Delilah knew she’d found her soulmate. They were set to be married until one particularly dangerous heist left each member of her work team with a family member gone– and for Delilah, it was Neal.
At the time, she had become the Assistant Head of Data Analytics at the New York Branch of the FBI, and she knew that anyone and everyone close to her would be targets if her name and information got out there. Delilah further retreated from her family and knew that every day, she was putting Neal at risk. Her worst nightmare had come true. He was tortured on camera and she was forced to watch, forced to perform heinous acts for the sheer ability of saving him, but there was no hope for either of them. Delilah had to make the horrible choice between saving the love of her life and giving away government secrets– and of course, there was no choice. She just as well as pulled the trigger that executed him, and Delilah sank into a massive, major depression as a result of that particular mission.
Her devastation at Neal’s passing had her retreat into Silicon Valley and hole herself up into the home she purchased. Quitting her job at the FBI wasn’t something that Delilah ever thought was in the cards for her, but considering how famous her mother was and sister was becoming, what was to stop them from going after her family, next? With great power comes great responsibility, and so Delilah turned to her former love: computer programming and video game design. She worked for years on a game called Evervale, which combined cozy farming simulations like Animal Crossing, Wylde Flowers, and Stardew Valley with some D&D mechanics. The game went mobile in 2022 and has become incredibly popular since. Delilah has been working on bringing more versions to various consoles and a sequel.
Her decision to take a professorship at PSU stemmed mostly from the fact that she wanted to be close to her sisters, and feel like she’s part of a community again. After spending the most amount of time lying about her job, ensuring that she’d keep her family safe, she’s very happily back to being honest with them about her former work and the truth of what happened to Neal. She’s spending her free time coding and doing more video game work, while fully ignoring that part of her life ever happened.
Delilah is healing, and has since reconnected with her college boyfriend, Tommy Abrams. She is working on the next installment of the Evervale series, and she's really, really happy.

You know what's a crazy aspect of being human? As you move through the world and interact with people, you start to learn that not even "neurotypical" brains all work the same. You want an example? No? Tough.
So for the entirety of my life, I've had traits that made me puzzled by some things about other people.... til I realized that not everyone's brain [or even most brains] do that.
Once I read a book, even just once, if I pick it up a decade later I will remember the entire book after reading the first paragraph or so. [I have to REALLY love a book to re-read or own it.] I genuinely didn't understand how people could say that they remembered reading a book awhile back but don't remember anything about it so are re-reading it as though it is the first go.
I don't have that ability for anything, really. In the first 5 or 10 mins of a movie or show, I can tell you if I've seen it, when, and the entire plot/arch. As opposed to me watching a movie with my dad, him saying he's not seen it, and me slow turning to look at him incredulously before I tell him that we watched it together not one year ago. He has zero memory of anything he's ever watched that isn't LOTR, Star Trek, or Python. It's baffling and frankly I'm envious. [Note: my partner does this, too, but he has debilitating levels of ADHD.]
It's pretty well known that after hearing a song a couple times, I will know most lyrical content, compositional elements, and somehow also know the title, band, album, and sometimes approx release year. There's also a tab in my brain that is constantly open and running a Shazam adjacent program that scans for song lyrics in any context, and upon finding some... or any it autocompletes the song in my head. Or if i'm tired/not paying attention, it does this out loud. My partner started playing a game without telling me. He will spontaneously start playing a song from youtube on his phone and if I name the band and song before the chorus I win. He recently upped this by tossing random song lyrics into conversation to see if I continue the song from that lyric. I only figured out what he was doing because living here I also learned that not everyone listens to music like I do.... almost constantly. He and the kids watch/listen to youtubers of various types, so him playing music was out of the ordinary and I asked about it.
[Less fun automatic brain function is that I am hyperaware of my surroundings along with the people in them and my brain unconsciously stores the behavior patterns of people I spend time with allowing me to seem like I can predict the future via knowing what they are looking for without them saying anything or showing up with a cup of tea when they are about to make one. This one is less fun because sometimes it creeps people out and also my brain is like this from spending my first 1.5 decades raised by hateful narcissistic people who also had personality/mood disorders. it was a survival skill. ]
The last weird thing is that when asked if I've seen an object, my brain basically pulls up an image of the object, then slowly zooms out to reveal the context in which I last saw it. Doesn't matter how long it's been, the photo in my brain is very detailed and exact. It can also summon other memories in a similar fashion. It has become slightly less reliable as the unrelenting pain of existing during my 39 years on earth with my Unbreakable Ancestral Curse has impacted my brain in ways I wasn't prepared for. IE it fucks up my memory, some motor function, and sometimes just gives me static for a couple days. 0/10 stars for the curse. Then again, I live with 4 people who all have severe ADHD and 3 of whom are kids, so stuff gets moved for no reason a bunch making my recall less reliable simply because shit is no longer as static as I'm accustomed to.
ANYWAY, it was just an interesting thing I was musing on after my partner walking in to me petting the dogs to the drumline of a Slipknot song, looking confused and asking "Didn't you play bass because your parents wouldn't let you play drums?" Which... yeah. That's 100% true. But my brain is a weird sponge and I love music, especially shit with great drums. I've been listening to a lot of Gojira lately. You should too if you are into metal or just really talented drummers.
It's nice to know that my OS still confounds my partner despite being besties for 10 yrs and living together for 2.
[note: before you comment/ask, yes I've been assessed by neuropsych and various run of the mill psychs repeatedly over the years. medically neurotypical and mentally sound, just real fucking weird for numerous reasons.]
